UGC NET 2026 Re-Exam Dates Announced for English, Commerce and Sociology
UGC NET 2026 Re-Exam Dates Announced for English, Commerce and Sociology
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the re-conduct of the UGC-NET June 2026 examination for three subjects — English, Commerce and Sociology.
The re-examination has been scheduled after an expert committee examined complaints regarding errors in the question papers. According to NTA, the three papers contained several factual, typographical and translation errors, along with issues relating to question wording, grammar, punctuation, terminology and repetition of previously administered questions.
The UGC-NET June 2026 examination was originally conducted from 22 June to 30 June 2026 across 87 subjects for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor eligibility and admission to PhD programmes.
UGC NET 2026 Re-Exam Schedule
Candidates appearing for the affected subjects should carefully note the revised examination schedule.
| Subject | Re-Exam Date | Shift | Examination Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| English | 9 September 2026 | Shift 1 | 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon |
| Commerce | 9 September 2026 | Shift 2 | 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM |
| Sociology | 10 September 2026 | Shift 1 | 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon |
The above schedule has been officially announced by NTA for the re-conduct of the three affected papers.
NTA received several complaints regarding the English, Commerce and Sociology question papers conducted during the June 2026 examination.
An expert committee was subsequently constituted to examine the complaints. The committee identified multiple issues, including:
- Factual errors
- Typographical errors
- Translation errors
- Misspelt names of prominent scholars
- Garbled book titles
- Errors in question wording
- Grammatical errors
- Gender and number agreement errors
- Punctuation mistakes
- Non-standard terminology
- Repetition of a significant number of previously administered questions
The committee recommended re-conducting the three papers to ensure a fair and error-free examination.
NTA has stated that errors of this extent could not be resolved simply by dropping questions after the challenge process. Therefore, the affected papers will be conducted again.
